David is president and managing owner of West Coast Expeditions, a nationally-recognized Canadian Signature Experience operator and Canada's first kayak tour company to achieve the Green Tourism Gold Standard - the largest sustainable grading program in the world.

As the coordinator and lead instructor for NIC's Adventure Guiding and Aboriginal Ecotourism programs, he shares a lifetime of experience messing about, on and in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. With more than 30 years of experience guiding, instructing and educating in BC's waters, he's committed to developing well-rounded skills and knowledge in adventure and ecotourism leaders, including a passion for working with Aboriginal ecotourism education, partnerships, and community capacity building.

David skillfully weaves together the diverse aspects of the adventure guiding experience, drawing on his master’s degree and consulting work in community-based tourism and organizational planning, five seasons of fast-response Coast Guard Search and Rescue, two decades of shaping professional sea kayaking practices, and years of volunteer marine stewardship and education.
