NIC partners with First Nations to bring credentialed programs and courses to Indigenous students in their communities. These programs often combine important upgrading in English and math with job skills and credentials.
Examples of programs and partnerships:
- NIC worked with Ahousaht First Nation to bring the Early Childhood Care & Education Certificate in-community to fill a need brought forward by the community.
- NIC partnered with the ‘Namgis First Nation to deliver Adult Basic Education and Applied Business Technology courses in Alert Bay.
- The Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council (NTC) identified the need for health care assistants in their communities, and approached NIC to deliver the Health Care Assistant program to eight members. The program was funded by the NTC.
- NIC worked with the Homalco First Nation to implement a pre-health program including academic upgrading, foundations skills, and core courses for a cohort of Homalco Health Care Assistant students.
