Youth Academy Summer Camps combine fun and meaningful, hands-on learning, with a focus on STEM, Digital Design, Fine Art, Health Science, Language Arts and more.

Need to Knows
Prior to camp start, participants will receive an email containing the appropriate forms required for participation. These forms will also be linked below when available. Forms must be received by NIC no later than 9am on the camp start date.
There are two documents that need to be received for each participant.
Emergency Contact, Medical Release, and Informed Consent (three forms on one document). Must be completed in full, signed by a legal parent/guardian and received by NIC before camp start date.
Permission to Publish. If you do not wish for your child’s photo to be used for media, marketing or promotional purposes please ensure you communicate this on your form.
How to submit forms
Fillable form (no printing or scanning necessary): Simply fill out on your computer and email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Printable form: print form, scan, and email to email@example.com. **Please do not mail forms***
If your child has a medical condition please be sure to indicate it on the camp forms and follow up with the Youth Outreach Liaison this way NIC can ensure your child has a safe and positive experience at camp.
All Youth Academy camps are peanut/nut free environments. Youth will be asked not to bring peanut/nut snacks with them to camp and any snacks provided will be peanut/nut free. Please be sure to communicate your child’s allergy and severity of the reaction on your camp forms. If your child carries an epi-pen or special medication please touch base directly with the Youth Outreach Liaison.
Youth Academy does not provide Education Assistants for summer camps. Please communicate directly with the Youth Outreach Liaison, who will be happy to work with you to find a solution that works for your child.
Please send your child to camp with a peanut/nut free lunch and snacks as well as drinks to sustain them throughout the day.

Online- Payment methods accepted are major credit card. You must pay at the time of registration to hold your spot.
At this time, there are no subsidies or bursaries in place, however please contact the Youth Outreach Liaison prior to registering to find out the most up to date information.
Two weeks prior to camp start day – full refund.
Inside two weeks, no refunds are not provided. Please contact the Youth Outreach Liaison to find out about your options.
A link to camp forms will be provided via email to registered participants no later than June 1. On this date, forms will also be available online at www.nic.bc.ca/youth-academy.
If there is a delay in sending out camp forms, an update will be provided on the Youth Academy website.
Youth Academy camps start at 9 am and end at 3 pm. We currently do not have before or after camp care in place. Please drop off no earlier than 8:45 am and pickup no later than 3 pm.
Please drop your child off at the campus location and room number listed on your receipt. If your camp is taking place off campus ie. Tofino or Sointula, you will be contacted with specific pickup and drop off information.
For camps at all locations, please come with your child into the building to sign them in. There will be a staff member out front the building should you need assistance finding your room number.
Please park in designated parking zones and avoid parking and idling in fire lanes, staff parking and bus areas.

Please come into the building to pick up your child and sign them out. If your child is leaving with a friend or on their own, please indicate this on your camp forms. Your child will be responsible for signing themselves out each day and indicating their mode of transport home.
If your child is unwell or injured at camp and cannot fully take part in the group’s activities, the camp leader may determine that a child needs to be picked up. If a child is unwell or injured and medical care is required, camp staff will call first aid first, and then place a call to the parents.
NIC is a closed campus for Youth Academy participants, meaning all campers are not allowed to leave campus alone.
Campers must be signed in and out each day of camp. If a parent is unavailable to sign the child out, alternate plans for pickups at the end of the day must be approved by a parent/guardian.
If for any reason your child will be late, absent or picked up early, please communicate the circumstances to camp staff or the Youth Outreach Liaison immediately. If a child is not accounted for and there is no communicated absence, the parent/guardians will be notified but ultimately it will be the parent/guardian's responsibility to follow up on the child’s whereabouts.
NIC takes its commitment to providing a safe environment for youth to explore their passions very seriously. All Youth Academy participants and staff are expected to treat individuals, equipment and the spaces utilized for camp activities with the upmost respect. Participants are always required to follow safety rules and guidelines. Parents will be notified if behaviour is unsafe or inappropriate. The parent/guardian will be responsible for picking up the child should it be deemed necessary.
Youth Academy has a zero-tolerance policy in regards to behaviours such as bullying, harassment, discrimination, racism, and physical violence of any kind. This policy extends to illegal activities during camp hours such as alcohol, drugs, smoking/vaping and theft. Parents will be notified, and the participant will be sent home without refund.
On the first day of camp parents/guardians must arrive at check in with their child. If your child is arriving alone via bus or on foot, or with another family, please indicate such on their forms. It is the parent/guardians responsibility to ensure that the child is signed in at the beginning of the day.
Items to bring to camp:
Wear weather appropriate clothing that can get wet or dirty. Please do not send your child in their favourite outfit that would devastate them if got ruined.
- Lunch and snacks (NUT/PEANUT FREE)
- Refillable water bottle
- Sunscreen, hat, running shoes
- Closed toe shoes are required for Mad Scientist and Health Science camps.

Youth Academy is seeking confident and enthusiastic individuals ages 16+ to assist camp instructors with summer camp related activities.
Camp hours are 9am-3pm Monday to Friday.
There are several camps offered across a variety of interest areas.
Volunteers may be eligible to receive credits towards high school graduation.
